Convert PDF to Text
Extract all the readable text from a PDF into a plain .txt file.
Processing…
Works with files up to roughly 100 MB, depending on your device's memory.
PDF to Text pulls out every piece of selectable text in your PDF and lays it out as a plain .txt file you can open anywhere, search, or paste into another document. Upload your PDF and the tool reads through each page in order, preserving line and paragraph breaks as closely as the original layout allows. This works well for reports, articles, and other text-based PDFs; it will not recognize text inside a scanned image, since that text doesn't exist as selectable characters in the file (for scanned documents, an OCR tool would be needed instead). Once extraction finishes, review the text and download it as a .txt file. As with every tool here, the PDF is read entirely inside your browser and never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
Will this work on a scanned PDF?
Only if the scan already has selectable text (for example, from prior OCR). Purely image-based scans have no extractable text.
Does it preserve the original formatting?
It preserves line and paragraph breaks reasonably well, but complex layouts like multi-column pages or tables may not extract in perfect reading order.
What file do I get at the end?
A plain .txt file containing all the extracted text, downloadable with one click.
